Round 2, Pick 34: Colts Select TE Coby Fleener

With the 34th overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected tight end Coby Fleener from Stanford.

The 6-6, 245 pound tight end will follow in the footsteps of Dallas Clark, and some think he could be better.  In a league in which tight end is a major factor on offenses, Fleener was widely viewed as the best tight end in the draft.  I thought he would not fall to the second round.

He did, luckily (no pun intended) for the Colts.

Coming into the draft I said he was the perfect fit for the Colts in the second round and that the Colts would love to have him.  They now do, and I am guessing Andrew Luck is just as excited as Colts fans are.

Fleener will be a very good red zone target and will be a big factor in the passing game as well.  The combination of Luck to Fleener will continue, and will likely be dominating the league for years to come.

Check out this YouTube video of some of Fleener’s highlights

2 rounds are down, and the Colts have a quarterback and someone for him to throw to.  What do the Colts need in round 3?

[UPDATE:] Tweet from Colts owner Jim Irsay:

Wow..Fleener was there!!!! Celebration in Indy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6.6…250…runnin’ 4.5!!!!!! MATCH UP NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!
