Colts TRADE: Round 3, Pick 92: Colts Select T.Y. Hilton, WR, Florida International

The Colts traded up into the 3rd round again to pick number 92 with theSan Francisco 49ers to get wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.

Hilton is a 5-10, 185 pound speed receiver and return specialist.  Hilton is at his best on screens and catch-and-run opportunities.  He will give the Colts a big boost in the return game, something they have been bad at for years.   The problem with Hilton is his size, and he struggles to stay on the field.

Hilton could be a good slot receiver in the NFL.  Austin Collie is a great slot guy, but in today’s NFL, a 4th WR is a huge benefit.

This pick surprised me.  I thought the Colts had traded up to get Alameda Ta’amu, but they took Hilton instead.  They gave up their 97th overall pick (4th round) and a 5th rounder in 2013 to the 49ers.

We now know what direction the Colts are heading.  They are focused on offense- more specifically, the passing offense.  And in today’s NFL, that is the way to win.

While some may doubt the Colts’ selections, I like that the Colts know where they are going and are willing to trade to do it.
