Colts Receive 3 Compensatory Picks

Today at the NFL owner’s meeting the 32 compensatory picks were announced.  The picks are awarded using a complicated formula to calculate the value of free agents lost the previous year.  In the Colts’ case, they were awarded 3 compensatory picks for the losses of OT Charlie Johnson and LB Clint Session.  The picks the Colts received:

  • 5th round, number 170 overall
  • 6th round, number 206 overall
  • 7th round, number 253 overall (Mr. Irrelevant – last pick in the draft)

Yes, as of now the Colts select first and last in the 2012 NFL Draft.  Saturday April 28th will be a long day.

But on a lighter note, these picks will help the Colts add some depth to their roster, and quite possibly could produce some starters down the road.  As Phil Richards pointed out on twitter:

Comp. picks often late but can be valuable. #Colts got LB C.Session (4th rnd-2007, S A.Bethea 6-2006, WR P.Garcon 6-2008, LB K.Conner 7-2010
