Colts Trade for QB Drew Stanton

Busy day in Colts land.

First, they lost 3 offensive starters (Diem, Saturday, and Tamme) to free agency.

And now, the Colts have traded for Jets’ backup quarterback Drew Stanton.

The Jets signed Stanton last week, but then once they traded for Tim Tebow, they began shopping him.  The Colts were buyers.  Stanton was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 2nd round of the 2008 NFL Draft.  He started 4 games in his career with Detroit and played in 12.  He has completed 104-of-187 passes for 1,158 yards and 5 touchdowns, but has also thrown 9 interceptions.

Stanton is entering his 5th year in the league.  I wanted the Colts to bring in a veteran to backup Andrew Luck.  I was hoping for someone with more experience, but I do not mind this trade, as long as the Colts did not give up much to get him.  While the terms of the trade were undisclosed, I presume it is a low round pick.

The Colts just got their backup quarterback.

[UPDATE:  The Jets sent Drew Stanton and a 7th round pick (originally from Jacksonville – 7th overall in 7th round) in exchange for the Colts’ 6th round pick (originally from Philadelphia – 17th overall in 6th round).]
