The Decision: Looking at the Houston Texans’ Chances of Landing Peyton Manning

The Decision: Looking at where Peyton Manning may end up if he becomes a free agent… today, we look at the:
Initially, I did not even include the Texans as an option for Peyton Manning. But recently, I have heard them mentioned quite a bit as a possible spot for Peyton.
In terms of the team around him, Houston would be a very good spot for Peyton. The Texans have one of the best running backs in the league, Arian Foster, and a very good number two back in Ben Tate. Wide receiver Andre Johnson is one of the best in the league, and tight end Owen Daniels is a very good tight end when healthy.
The Texans defense is very good. Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips decided to remain with Houston, where in 2011 he turned the Texans into one of the best defenses in the league in just his first season with the team. Mario Williams is a free agent, but Houston played very well without him. I do not necessarily expect him to be resigned, but the Texans will be fine without him.
Quarterback Matt Schaub is one of the better quarterbacks in the league when healthy, but he is no Peyton Manning. Rookie T.J. Yates stepped in and played well when Schaub was hurt. I think that the Texans would consider Peyton. But ultimately, I do not see the Texans being serious contenders for Peyton Manning.
Certainly, if Peyton were to go to Houston and be healthy, they would be one of the favorites for the super bowl.
But I do not see it happening.
Chances of landing Manning: 2/10
Chances of playoffs with healthy Manning: 99%
Chances of winning super bowl with healthy Manning: 80%
