The $28 Million Question

Colts owner Jim Irsay told Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star that “We can make it work if [Peyton Manning] wants to be here.”

Irsay added:

“I want him to be able to make the choice. We would love to have him back here if he can get healthy and we can look at doing a contract that reflects the uncertainty of the . . . healing process with the regeneration of the nerve.’’

“There’s no question it can be worked out if he wants to be here. It can work if he wants to come back and can get back to being the old Peyton.’’

So, basically, Irsay is saying that if Peyton really wanted to stay in Indianapolis, the Colts would want him, but not at $28 million dollars.

So that becomes the $28 million question: would Peyton want to stay?

I think so, yes.

But is it too far beyond repair now to keep Peyton?

Only time will tell.  But for now, the ball is in Peyton’s court.
