The Colts today announced that they have hired Bruce Arians as their offensive coordinator and Harold Goodwin as their offensive line coach. They also announced the firings of tight ends coach Ricky Thomas and assistant offensive line coach Ron Prince. Also, reportedly, Clyde Christensen is staying on with the Colts as quarterbacks coach.
Arians has spent the past 8 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, 3 as wide receivers coach and the last 5 as their offensive coordinator. Arians won two super bowls with the Steelers (2005 and 2008) and helped young Ben Roethlisberger turn into one of the elite quarterbacks in the NFL. Arians was the Colts quarterbacks coach from 1998 through 2000, coaching Peyton Manning for his first 3 years in the league.
Throughout his career at both the collegiate and professional level, Arians has been a head coach once (Temple, 1983-1988, 21-45 record) and has coached quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, and been offensive coordinator. He worked with Colts head coach Chuck Pagano in Cleveland in 2001, and coached against Pagano last year in the AFC North (In two games against Pagano’s Ravens defense, Arians’ offense scored a combined 27 points in 2011).
Goodwin spent the past 5 seasons as the Steelers offensive assistant, working with the offensive line and assisting with game preparation.
