Ryan Grigson the new GM of the Colts

The Colts today announced that Ryan Grigson is their new general manager. Grigson had spent the past nine years with the Philadelphia Eagles, the last two years as their director of player personnel, and prior to that was their director of college scouting for four years. From everything I hear, this sounds like a good hire for the Colts. Not a big name hire, but a good one.
In terms of what he will do in Indy, he has a busy offseason ahead.
First, he must decide what to do with head coach Jim Caldwell. I can’t imagine he stays, but it is definitely not decided yet. (As a side note on coaches, Grigson worked with Steve Spagnulo during his time with the Eagles and also with Howard Mudd for the past few years. Spagnulo is currently without a job, and I imagine Howard Mudd would be willing to come back to Indy with Polian gone. Also… I wonder why Jeff Fisher hasn’t announced whether he is going to St. Louis or Miami. Could there be a “mystery team” in play still?)
Second, Grigson has the issue of what to do at quarterback. Jim Irsay will make it easy on him: Irsay will decide. Irsay is the one who will determine what to do with Peyton Manning. But ultimately, Grigson will be the one who has to make it work.
Not to mention pleanty of other veteran free agents, the NFL Draft, and a dysfunctional franchise.
Here’s wishing Ryan Grigson good luck in Indianapolis.
