Training Camp Day 10: A Bunch of Updates…

Several moves were made today by the Colts:

They waived injured WR Cole Heckendorf (foot) and OT James Williams (foot) (per Tom James, at TribStarTJames on twitter).

Also from Tom James is that the Colts claimed TE Michael Matthews off waivers from Buffalo and that they signed LB Vuna Tuihalamaka.  Vuna was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Indy on April 30, 2010.

Then tonight, Stampede Blue broke the news that the Colts had signed OG Josh Beekman as well.  What was especially cool about it is that they intially posted that one of their readers told them about it.  As an avid reader of the site, cool to see them recognizing him.  Beekman was a fourth round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, but spent last season in the UFL.  Beekman is 6’2, 310 pounds.  I’m interested to see just where he falls on the depth chart.

Jim Caldwell updated us on the status of Peyton Manning (thanks to the Indy Star;  read the whole article here):

“Doing well, coming along, Caldwell said. He’s working extremely hard at it. Doing all the little things that it requires to get him where he wants to be. I think you guys know as well as I do he’s ready to go and will be out there because he is chomping at the bit, that’s for certain.”

“He’s doing what the doctor is telling him to do, let’s put it that way. He is going through his rehab, they have everything mapped out for him and they’re adjusting as it goes so I think he is comfortable with the plan they have set for him.”

I mentioned yesterday that ESPN AFC South Blogger Paul Kuharsky was visiting Colts camp.  While not related to his visit, here are two good reads: Kuharsky’s first look at the Colts depth chart; and then ESPN’s first power rankings of 2011, of which Kuharsky is one of the voters.  The Colts check in at number 8.

Lastly, Jacob Lacey was reportedly injured and left practice early today with an undisclosed injury.  I will keep you updated on his injury status, as well as all other things Colts right here and on twitter at Coltsfanwilson.
