Training Camp Day 9: Injuries…

The Colts did not have practice yesterday, and so I did not post yesterday either.  The Colts were back at practice today, however, and so I am back to blogging on all things Colts.  The biggest story of the day were the injuries.  Sims, Conner, Anderson, Richard and Horn.

Phillip B. Wilson of the Indianapolis Star did a great job as always covering today’s Colts practice.  Here are his observations, shared on twitter (pwilson24).

Colts LB Ernie Sims had appendectomy Sunday. Coach Jim Caldwell says LB is expected to miss two weeks.

Colts LB Kavell Conner returned to practice today. Two fingers of his right hand were wrapped in a cast. He said his pinkie was dislocated.

Colts DE Jamaal Anderson had a hamstring issue during practice and had to have leg wrapped. No word on severity.

Kind of good news, bad news for Colts on LBs. Fear was Conner would miss time. He assures cast will be off by Sept. Then Sims has setback.
Realize it’s 1 practice, but Colts 2nd-rounder Ben Ijalana looked better in pass-rush/pass-block drill than 1st-rounder Anthony Castonzo.

Colts OT Jamey Richard and WR Joe Horn left practice today with undetermined issues.

(in response to a fan question) I think Diem stays put. If Castonzo doesn’t pick it up, Link is your starter at left tackle.

John Chick beat Colts rookie LT Anthony Castonzo on outside speed rush today. Only one play, but it bothers me.

Colts second-round pick Ben Ijalana talked about how he needs to punch more in blocking technique. Thought O-lineman was strong today.
Not encouraging news, except for the part about Ben Ijalana.  The guy has definetly impressed me, and now it seems he is impressing others as well.

According to Stampede Blue, the Colts released TE Rob Myers today.  They suggest that this maybe paves the way for another signing.  I hope so.

Paul Kuharsky is at Colts camp currently.  Today he blogged his observations from practice.  Expect to see his name alot here while he is in Anderson.

And, for your enjoyment, I have linked to Don Banks’ SI.com training camp postcard on the Colts.  Includes observations (including that he thinks Austin Collie will have a huge year) and a preview of the schedule.  Read it here.
